This privacy policy is for the website emmasmithproofreader.com. Your privacy is important to me. This privacy policy will explain how I collect, use and protect the personal data collected from you when you use my website.

When you send an enquiry via emmasmithproofreader.com I request personal information relevant to providing you with a service, such as your:

  • project topic, word count, project deadline and any other information pertinent to your enquiry.

 

I will also ask how you found my website (e.g. on Twitter, Google search, Facebook page).

You directly provide me with most of the data I collect. The data is collected when you:

  • send an enquiry via the Contact Me page

  • click on the emma@emmasmithproofreader.com link to send a direct email

  • use or view my website via your browser’s cookies.

How do I use your data?

It’s necessary for me to collect certain data from you in order to:

  • contact you regarding your enquiry

  • respond to your enquiry as accurately as possible

  • better understand how visitors find this website

  • continue to correspond with you while a project is ongoing

  • be compliant with the UK tax authority (HMRC) in case of an audit request and for internal accounting processes (e.g. invoicing).

How do I store your data?

I securely store your data on Google Cloud which is itself committed to GDPR compliance across all Google Cloud services. You can view the Google Cloud privacy policy here.

Wix is my website host. It is password-protected and has SSL-certification (https) which provides an extra layer of security. You can view the Wix privacy policy here.

The password-protected email provider I use is Zoho. It operates a two-factor authentication login process. You can view the Zoho privacy policy here.

How long do I keep your data for?

Many of my clients work with me more than once. Therefore, data is kept private and is securely stored until a time it is no longer required, unless I am specifically requested to do so in writing before this time.

The UK tax authority (HMRC) requires me to keep records “for at least 5 years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year”.

Marketing

I will never use your data for marketing or promotional purposes (e.g. by publishing a testimonial or a sample of your work on my website) unless you have given your permission in writing.

If you have agreed to receive marketing emails, I may occasionally send you information about my services that I think you may find useful. You have the right at any time to opt out of marketing emails. Your details are not passed on to any third parties.
